During TCP/IP transfer, a certain amount of data needs to be confirmedupon reception before more can be sent. Stalling data confirmationresults in delays and transfer-rate slowdowns, thus forcing the senderto wait. Especially for ADSL, it is possible to slow a download to acrawl by choking the upstream channel (which has the smaller bandwidthanyway) with an upload. This is because in such a scenario there is notenough upstream bandwidth left for data confirmation. The standardsolution so far has been to try and compensate for this by increasingTCP window size, thereby allowing more data to be sent withoutimmediate confirmation.

cFosSpeed is a network driver, which attaches itself to existingInternet connections. It then optimizes data transfer by means ofTraffic Shaping.

Traffic Shaping is a method for optimizing the Internet traffic. It allows maximum speed while ensuring minimal Ping.
You can use cFosSpeed with a router and/or a DSL-modem or cable-modem.You can also use cFosSpeed with other types of Internet access, ie.whenever you already have an existing Internet connection.

cFosSpeed supports a wide variety of connections, like DSL, cable, ISDN, UMTS, etc.

cFosSpeed has two goals:

• Keep network delays (ping times) small, in order to make Internet applications as responsive as possible.
• Improve data throughput by avoiding network congestions.

You can use cFosSpeed with an Internet connection you use exclusively or which you share with several PCs.

Filter expressions -s and -d now accept lists of addresses. Thanks to reMiND for the idea.
Added a switch to log all TCP connections with their adresses, ports,statistics, etc. to a disk file. This may be good if you want to seewhat happened, when you didn't watch the status window. The data ofthe sessions is not saved, only statistics.
To activate set "spd gset log_sessions 1". Add a "-save" if you wantto keep it activated after a restart. The disk file is calledsession_log.txt; you can set it max size with gset variablemax_session_log_size, default is 1mb.
Added spd command "tcb" to show interactively some of the info that is written to session_log.txt.
cFosSpeed now uses less allocations and thus less CPU load.

x IP reassembly code was broken. Fixed.

x Low latency mode lowered the TCP MSS even in cases where theincreased amount of TCP ACKs would totally saturate the upstream. Wenow only lower the MSS if the RX and TX rates are reasonablysymmetrical. Thanks

x To fix the case where line geometry is such that you have lots ofdownload and not much upload (like 1024/32) we now limit the amount ofdata that is sent out prioritised in classes high and higher to 40% ofTX-bandwidth each. If that limit is exceeded, packets are sent outlike any other packet is with default priority.
